It's that wonderful time of year again where the trees are an array of warm reds, oranges and yellows and the dew twinkles in the morning. What better time to get your wedding inspiration from nature all around you…. but rather than going for the traditional autumn hues why not be a little different? Here is my take on choosing your wedding colours for an Autumn event.
I prefer a softer colour palette and you can bring the season into your flowers and decorations in other ways. I love the arrangement below as not only does it include blackberries, which are all around us at this time of year, it's created using subtle pinks and purples instead of reds and oranges. Try pink and white hydrangeas for larger arrangements and decoration, with alstroemeria, roses and delphiniums for that touch of colour. All these are in season this time of year, which will help your flower budget enormously.
A lovely wedding table idea is to use little bottles of sloe gin; not only do they warm the cockles should it be a bit nippy out but they also are a fun way to display your place names. Sloes are out this time of year so why not get creative and make your own - brilliant way to save some money too.
Inspiration for the Groom
If I could get married again (hopefully my husband is not reading this) I would definitely want to dress my man in something a little more interesting, after all it’s your wedding day and you can do what you want. I love tweed for a wedding and whilst better suited to the cooler months it looks fab and against a country setting . Add a few pheasant feathers or acorns to your buttonholes as well as a nice Autumn touch. Just one piece of advice – best to make sure your man puts his trousers on before he walks down the aisle…
I wouldn't be able to resist putting the flower girls in these over sized tulle skirts. Full of fluffy cuteness, golds and taupe are also elegant tones for bridesmaids in the Autumn months.
Lighting in my opinion one of the most important thing about any wedding but even more so when the nights are drawing in. Light up pathways and scatter fairy lights everywhere. The more twinkle the better...
Hopefully that has given you one or two new Autumn wedding ideas. I think it's a lovely time to get married, not least so you can go on honeymoon just as the summer in the UK is leaving us!
